I'd like you to meet someone

As promised in a previous post, I would like you to meet my husband. I was very surprised, and quite pleased, when my husband came to me one morning as I brushed my teeth, and said he was ready to make his debut on my blog. "Sure honey, that would be great!" I said. He said he already had something in mind he wanted to write about. Woah! Wait a minute. Your writing your own post? I thought I would be writing a post introducing you. Not you writing a post introducing yourself. Hmmm. Did I like this idea? Actually, yes. Very much. And as I thought about it more, I began to love the idea. Especially when he shared with me what he was going to write about. So without further ado, I introduce you to my husband, the Coach!

He titled his post:

A Concert in my rearview mirror

Imagine this if you will…. Music is playing on the radio and you hear, “Daddy, TURN IT UP”! It’s already a bit loud, but I turn that song up and smile. I look back and I see four little heads bobbing to the beat of “Roxanne” by The Police. You see Maddie mouthing the words to the song, Micah is always on the drums and Luke is really jamming on that guitar. Brady’s little legs are kicking the back of my seat and he is just smiling away, and loving the music. As the song fades and is close to being over, I hear, “play it again daddy”. Each child has their favorite song and wants it played at the same time, but we can only play one. Ok, next is one of Maddies songs in the mix. Ready Maddie, here it is….. “When it’s over” by Sugar Ray. Yeah, I have a Sugar Ray CD, so what…. Anyway, she loves this song so much that I can only hear her singing the lyrics more than the actual song. “It goes out the window….” ‘ Cue up my man Luke’s song on the player next. What will it be? The Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson, may be Skynard? Nope, how about a little Outkast “Hey Ya”. Now the music is blaring so loudly that the folks driving next to us are wondering what we are doing to these poor children…. Are you wondering what song Jess wants to hear? Well, here’s a hint…. “ She’s got electric boots, a mohair suit, you know I read it in a magazine. Ba ba ba ba ba ba Benny and the Jets…
This really brings me back to when I would be driving in a car with my family, on our way to the beach for the 20th day in a row, listening to Billy Idol, Steely Dan, Tears for Fears and Steve Winwood. Man, we could really put on a concert to “White Wedding”…. My dad would look at us in his rearview mirror and probably reflect the same feelings that I am now. When I look in the mirror and see four amazing children listening to music and feeling like this is so awesome!! Why can’t we just keep driving and listening? Just keep going Daddy, just one more song….
These are the moments we remember as parents. The times that are children are having the time of their little lives, during the simplest times. We have to take these times and tuck them in a special place in our hearts and thank God that we are blessed on a daily basis with a beautiful family. So next time your in the car listening to Glenn Beck, pop in a CD and watch the concert of memories in your rearview mirror.

"When you find yourself in the thick of it help yourself to a bit of what is all around you." –The Beatles
